Who , What, Why, Where
Hi, I'm Edith and I live in the Minneapolis, MN (USA) area.
I seek to photograph natural beauty wherever I find it, whether in the city or more remote spots. I tend toward smaller landscapes or up close views of what others may not notice or even may step on.
For me, photography is a way of seeing beauty, not just in the spectacular views, but in smaller and more ordinary things. As Eliot Porter said, “Much is missed if we have eyes only for the bright colors. Nature should be viewed without distinction.” My natural inclination is to notice colors, textures, reflections, and patterns in nature and try to capture that.

Why the name Birchwind?
The birch tree symbolizes new beginnings, continual hope, a promise of what is to come, regeneration, growth, renewal, stability, initiation, adaptability, and transformation.
Wind symbolizes energy, flexibility, a living force, unity, freedom, eternity, balance, an act of change (bring in the new, sweep out the old), unpredictability, change, and life force.
All of these attributes are what I need and desire in my life. After a long hiatus, I have returned to my first love, photography, and the symbolism of birch and wind resonate with the resulting and hoped for changes in my life.
